Ben Ernst is that most rare but most satisfying of things: a self-taught talent. Well, for the most part, anyway. Ernst received his earliest technical tuition from a professional photographer friend, but all his creative ability he has learned on his own over a 40 year shooting career, inspired by photographers like the great Man Ray and Cartier Bresson, and Dutch artists like Erwin Olaf, Corbijn and the Flemish Vanfleteren.
Very much a collaborative artist, Ernst always includes people or some human element in his landscapes, and his style is flexible enough to allow him to engage with new techniques and new stylistic approaches week on week.
